AbstractThe article studies cradle mounting as a method for integrating a transverse powertrain into body-on-frame vehicle platforms. Sport utility vehicles and multipurpose vehicles need mass reduction and improved fuel economy without sacrificing frame-based durability, yet the east-west engine package is usually associated with monocoque architecture. The aim is to explain how a cradle-to-frame interface can transfer a cross-car powertrain layout to a ladder-frame chassis. The material base combines a patent document on cradle decking with recent studies on vehicle frame optimization, front subframe design, powertrain mounting, chassis deviation, and process-oriented tolerance management. The study applies comparative source analysis, conceptual synthesis, typological classification, and analytical generalization. The results define the architecture conflict, interpret the cradle as a load-distributing carrier, and formulate dimensional control rules for hardpoint repeatability. The proposed logic supports early vehicle architecture work, chassis integration, and GD&T-based assembly planning in frame-based vehicle programs without claiming measured fleet-level performance or production validation.
