Abstract

At first glance, 1966 might seem like just another year in the chronological progression of time. Nothing could be farther from the truth, since this year is undoubtedly an epoch-making year, with its reverberations being felt far beyond the twelve months on the calendar. Beneath its unassuming surface lay the seeds of historical transformation, particularly for the Indian subcontinent. As I explore this momentous year, it is worth noting that it was in December, on the 18th day, that I, made my entry into the world. But let us momentarily set aside this personal note and focus on the broader canvas of history that unfolded in 1966.
